Design 4 Structures

Established in 1992 as a steelwork detailing practice, Design 4  Structures has since evolved into a fully integrated structural and civil engineering consultancy. In 2016, the business expanded its remit under the leadership of co-founders Daniel Leech, James McNee, and Jonathan Lock, who have guided its growth into the multi-disciplinary practice it is today.

Design 4 Structures combines structural, civil, and construction engineering expertise with a dedicated construction modelling team, underpinned by a strong specialism in offsite delivery. Acting as a strategic design and delivery partner, the company integrates engineering and digital modelling into a single, seamless service. From early feasibility through to fabrication and installation, it applies a Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) approach to deliver clarity, certainty, and speed across the offsite workflow.

This rigorous and award-winning methodology has positioned Design 4 Structures as the first specifier to be verified by Cast, providing independent recognition of its commitment to raising standards in offsite design and delivery.

The company supports a wide spectrum of offsite construction methods, from modular and panelised systems to full system development and design assurance. Its expertise covers point-loaded and line-loaded modules, loadbearing SFS and SFS infill, pre-panelised systems, design checks and peer reviews, and total system development for manufacturing.

Design 4 Structures engages with clients at any stage of the process, whether exploring feasibility or finalising a fabrication package. By embedding seamlessly into project workflows, the business accelerates delivery and reduces risk. This integrated approach enables greater procurement accuracy, improved design approvals, manufacture-readiness, and the reduction of rework and waste.
