DunLaoghaire, Co. Dublin
St. Joseph’s National School is a long-established school in Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin, with the original school opening 1860. To prepare for a rise in student enrolments, the client required modular classrooms that would be completed in time for students starting the new term. Four SmartClass modular classrooms with WCs were delivered to site with 80% of the works having already been completed at our 70,000 sq ft purpose-built manufacturing facility, this included, electrics, internal partitioning, flooring, cladding and features an Air Sourced Heat Pump in accordance with NZEB requirements. The project was completed within 16 weeks and was delivered on time and to budget.
Merstham Park School
The 6,850m2 Department for Education (DfE) Merstham Park School is a purpose-designed 2-3 storey facility providing 900 pupils aged 11-16 years with high-quality classrooms, play space, a dance studio, and an all-weather sports pitch. The pioneering ‘Low Carbon Pathfinder’ project minimises energy usage by implementing the ‘Be Lean, Be Clean, Be Green’ energy hierarchy which focuses on reducing the demand for energy at source through passive measures before considering efficient systems and renewable technology. The school – located within a green-belt zone – is run predominantly by electricity, and incorporates efficient heating and cooling systems, as well as roof-mounted solar panels.
University Hospitals Birmingham, Birmingham
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is recognised as one of the leading NHS trusts in the UK. UHB employs more than 20,000 members of staff across its locations at Good Hope Hospital, Heartlands Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, and Solihull Hospital. These two facilities had an urgent need for ward space due to rising patient numbers and the ongoing impact of Covid 19. McAvoy delivered two 24-bed wards, each containing ancillary areas, reception areas, nurses’ stations, staff rooms and clean/dirty utilities. The Trust was able to have its new accommodation operational quickly, completion took just 14 weeks for Good Hope Hospital and 18 weeks at Heartlands. Our SmartCare rental option provided the Trust with increased flexibility in terms of business planning, with the option to extend the rental period.
Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), Belfast
Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) had a requirement for a new Training & Office Accommodation Facility. McAvoy developed a bespoke design for the office building, ensuring the layout and flow were suitable for the client’s needs. The building comprises training facilities and breakaway areas. High levels of data were also incorporated to ensure the facility had the necessary IT infrastructure to deal with a high volume of incoming calls. Located in a healthcare park, on a busy site that is used by emergency vehicles, speed of construction was a key driver for the client. A modular solution was chosen due to the ability to commence construction in the factory simultaneously with the groundworks on site, ensuring a reduced programme compared to traditional construction.
