MMC Ireland Members’ Newsletter – July 2024

MMC Ireland Members’ Newsletter – July 2024

Message from CEO, Paul Tierney

August is almost upon us, I know from speaking with many of you that this has been a particularly busy summer – which we welcome!

Firstly, please join me in welcoming Philip to the team. Philip, a student from TU Dublin whom some of you have now met, is working with us for the summer, assisting with the compilation of our MMC Ireland Technical  Catalogue. Huge thanks to the members who have already given up their time to take a call with Philip this month, and to those we are yet to have a call, your time and assistance during this busy period is much appreciated. This important catalogue will be a dynamic and searchable database on our website, which can be updated directly by members. Critically, we will be launching this offering at UK Offsite Construction Week in September so time is of the essence.

On the topic of UK Offsite Construction Week, we will be sharing further details in the coming week to outline the MMC Ireland offering, which will be available to all members at no charge, including access to the MMC Ireland Lounge and pre-arranged meetings for our members with UK-based companies and individuals, at your request.

By way of policy and advocacy update, there have been ongoing meetings this month with the Department of Enterprise, the Department of Housing, NESC, The MMC Leadership and Integration Group, EY and KPMG, all furthering the interests of our members and the MMC sector as a whole. Further details will be shared with members in due course; suffice to say, Government is making progress in delivering a significant increase in the adoption of MMC.

Our pre-Budget submission proposals will be circulated to all members in the coming days and, subject to members’ acceptance of these, it will be sent to the relevant Government Departments next week. I would like to thank Pat Kirwan, Chair of the Policy Support & Integration working group and his group colleagues for taking the lead on this.

Growing Ireland’s MMC pipeline: As announced at our National Conference earlier this summer, we are currently working to complete a comprehensive report on the MMC sector in Ireland. Our focus is on how MMC Ireland members can further deliver on the ever increasing demand for additional homes, hospitals, schools and infrastructure, given the right policy environment and governmental frameworks are put in place as a matter of urgency – your input and project insights will help us complete this invaluable exercise on your behalf.

Thank you,

Paul

MMC Ireland Pre-Budget Submission

Message from Pat Kirwan, Chair of the Policy Support & Integration working group:

Thank you to all members who have contributed ideas for inclusion in MMC Ireland’s ‘Pre-Budget 2025 Submission’, for anyone who has yet to feed into this, please email me directly on pkirwan@cwoarchitects.ie.

As the leading industry representative body for Ireland’s offsite construction sector, it is critical that we use our knowledge and project insights to advocate for the right measures in Budget 2025. Given the political landscape ahead, the sector requires certainty that increased MMC adoption is underpinned by government policy. With that objective in mind, our proposals are calling for the government to support the industry to further decarbonise and digitalise in order to deliver the housing, healthcare, education and other critical infrastructure needed. You are welcome to contact me to discuss any aspects of the submission, your input is essential.

Thank you,

Pat

Offsite Construction Week UK

As mentioned previously, our Q3 members’ meetup will take place in the UK during Offsite Construction Week (an exciting new annual event for the calendar!) at the Offsite Expo, taking place in the Coventry Building Society Arena on September 17th and 18th.

MMC Ireland will have a dedicated lounge space within the Expo arena, which can be used by all members to network and host meetings. To increase the value for our members who wish to travel, MMC Ireland has arranged to work with a UK-based liaison to support members in arranging meetings and making new connections in advance of the Expo.

The following month, MMC Ireland will also have a presence at UK Construction Week in Birmingham from the 1st to the 3rd October. We will be happy to support any members who are exhibiting or attending that event.
