Watch MMC Ireland Lunch & Learn Sessions

BRE Academy

The Irish BIM Mandate requires the use of BIM and information management aligned with ISO 19650 on applicable public sector projects. Organisations must adopt standardised digital workflows, collaborative information management practices, and structured information delivery to meet public procurement requirements.

Join Polly Wilkinson (Head of BRE Academy) and Mike Tofton (BIM & Digital Construction Lead, BRE Academy) for an online discussion exploring the planned updates to the ISO 19650 series, scheduled for release next spring.

The session will examine what the proposed changes mean for current and future projects, why the updates are being introduced, and how they will shape the future of information management. Attendees will gain practical insights into the evolving standards and understand how to prepare for the next phase of BIM and digital information management.

CPAC Modular

This engaging session will provide an overview of the latest developments in MMC, exploring how modern construction methods are helping to deliver high-quality, sustainable buildings more efficiently. Attendees will gain practical insights into the evolution of MMC, its role in reducing project timelines and environmental impact, and the growing opportunities it presents for architects, engineers, contractors, developers, and clients.

Building on the success of the award-winning Built Smarter programme, the session will also challenge common misconceptions around MMC and showcase real-world examples that demonstrate the quality, flexibility, and design potential now achievable through offsite and modular construction.

New MSc in MMC Leadership

MMC Ireland, on behalf of CitA Skillnet and Technological University of Shannon (TUS), are delighted to invite you to a special introductory session presenting an exciting postgraduate programme in Modern Methods of Construction which has been developed in direct response to the Government’s MMC Action Plan.

Presented by Dr. Alan Hore of CitA Skillnet and Dr. Alan Duffy of Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), this session will introduce the new programme and give you the opportunity to learn more about how it can support your professional development and career progression in Ireland’s rapidly evolving MMC sector.

Capcon Engineering

Join Capcon Engineering to explore why rainwater management is now a critical infrastructure issue for modern buildings. As buildings become more complex and climate pressures increase, rainwater systems play a direct role in compliance, resilience, operational performance and long-term asset value.

However, many projects still rely on late-stage drainage design and fragmented delivery approaches, creating avoidable risks and inefficiencies.

This session explores how early, coordinated and independent rainwater design can significantly improve project outcomes across concept, design, construction and operations.

RYAN+LAMB Architects

RYAN+LAMB Architects examine the intersection of urban density and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), focusing on practical applications in today’s housing landscape.

Using the historic context of North Dublin as a primary case study, Rory Ryan will discuss the balance between preserving architectural heritage and meeting the demands of modern urban living.

Heron Fire Doors

Experts from Heron Manufacture Ltd provide valuable insight into fire door manufacturing, testing, and certification, alongside the regulatory changes that are shaping responsibilities across the supply chain.

Topics include:
▪ What makes a fire door a fire door
▪ The shift from door assemblies to doorsets
▪ Fire testing & certification – the key essentials
▪ Inspection, maintenance & product lifecycles – the Golden Thread
▪ Upcoming regulatory changes
▪ The new CITB installer competency frameworks (SKEB)

This session gives attendees a clearer understanding of the regulatory changes already underway in the UK and the potential ripple effects across Ireland.

Joe Fitzgerald, Ecological Building Systems

With the Irish construction industry responsible for 37% of national emissions, the need for low-carbon, resource-efficient building solutions has never been more urgent. As the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) will soon require the calculation and disclosure of a building’s embodied carbon from 2030 for all buildings and from 2028 for public buildings, understanding the carbon impact of our materials is essential.

Join Joe Fitzgerald (technical specification manager) for an informative Lunch & Learn session exploring how bio-based insulation can support future-ready construction.

Amvic ICF Session

ICF combines structure and insulation in a single build, offering a monolithic single-leaf wall system. It’s a tried-and-tested solution used since the 1960s.

This session goes beyond theory, offering real, actionable insights for the industry:

  • Case studies from housing, apartments, and healthcare facilities
  • Performance metrics: air tightness results, thermal bridging analysis, embodied carbon figures
  • Key detailing and compliance tips
  • Build programme insights to optimise speed and efficiency

Jason Horrex, Saint Gobain Session

With reduced materials waste and the ability to streamline installation efficiencies InteWall is an innovative new lightweight metal stud party wall partition solution from Saint-Gobain Solutions.

In this short presentation the concept of InteWall partition system is be introduced from the collaborative design process working with specialist optimisation software, followed by an overview of how this translates through to the made-to-order off-site manufacture of the systems panels, delivery and on-site installation.

Dick Clerkin, Clerkin Consulting Session

Our second Lunch & Learn session was hosted by Dick Clerkin, Managing Director of Clerkin Consulting and Chair of the MMC Ireland Education & Awareness Working Group joined by Mark Flynn at Rubiktech and Jakub Urbanczyk, Cairn Homes The session explored the transformative role of AI tools in manufacturing and offsite construction.

The panel shared practical insights and real-world case studies demonstrating how AI has delivered measurable gains in efficiency and productivity in their organisations. They also addressed the governance challenges that AI presents at all levels of business, including the emerging issue of ‘Negative AI Bias’ when creating and distributing AI-generated content.

Helena Lidelow, VBC Session

Our first Lunch and Learn session features a presentation on Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) by Helena Lidelow, Chief Technology Officer at VBC. In this session, Helena explores the forefront of offsite construction, with a focus on Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) and the innovations driving the next generation of modular building.

Drawing on her extensive experience across academia and industry, including leading design and technology at some of the largest modular companies in Europe and the U.S. Helena will also examine the evolving international landscape, highlighting the impact of tariffs on cross-border modular trade and what these shifts mean for the U.S. construction market. Expect a dynamic discussion filled with practical takeaways and a look ahead at what’s next in industrialized construction.
